Fantastic Volunteer Opportunities Just For You!!
Exciting things are happening at Cleveland Public Library and YOU can be a part of them by volunteering for the Friends of the Cleveland Public Library.
Volunteers represent an integral part of the Friends organization. These dedicated men and women spend countless hours staffing The Library Gift Shop, leading guided tours, sorting books and manning cash boxes at used book sales. Regardless of the number of hours you are available to volunteer, you will be making a valuable contribution.
Additional volunteers are needed to expand present programs. Listed below are brief descriptions of volunteer opportunities available:
The Library Gift Shop
The Library Gift Shop carries a wide arrange of book related gift items, including
used books. The shop is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
and during special events on Sundays. The shop is located on the first floor
of the Louis Stokes Wing at 6th Street and Superior. Volunteers are needed
to assist in the shop on a regular or substitute basis, price merchandise,
stock used book shelves and use their creative ability working on shop displays.
Tour Guide Program
Tours of Main Library and the Louis Stokes Wing are arranged for young adults
and adult groups. A guide may be asked to volunteer approximately two hours
a month, depending on the number of tours requested. Each tour lasts one
hour. Training is provided by experienced guides from a prepared script.
Book Sorter
Volunteers sort and box books to be sold at used book sales. Heavy lifting
is required.
Book Sale Cashier
Collects money at book sales and browses for bargains!
Membership Development
Ongoing project of stuffing envelopes with membership solicitation materials.
Thousands of letters are mailed during the year to area citizens inviting
them to join the Friends.
