2007 MY LIFE AS POETRY ESSAY COMPETITION WINNERS
In honor of its 50th Anniversary year, the Friends hosted an Adult Poetry Competition from June 1 – August 15 encouraging Library patrons 18 or older to share their story on how a particular poem impacted their life.

1st Place Winner: Anita J. Peeples
Poem: “What is Blue?” by Mary O’Neill

2nd Place Winner: Jamal Deadwyler
Poem: “Neon” by Michael Salinger

3rd Place Winner: Michelle Tibbetts-Kaletta
Poem: “The Journey” by Mary Oliver

2007 LEADING READERS PROGRAM AND TEEN POETRY COMPETITION
Leading Readers invited civic, political, business and academic leaders to read a personal favorite poem with the goal of inspiring participation in the Friends Teen Poetry Contest. The Contest was open to Cleveland Metropolitan School District residents in grades 9–12, inviting the submission of original poetry in the form of an English sonnet and then submitted for consideration of judges.

Three prizes will be awarded in the form of a Savings Bond, along with Merit awards for all finalists. The prizes and merit awards will be presented in February, 2008.
